uMhlathuze Sport complex

Izinga Holdings was appointed by the City of uMhlathuze through Turnkey Solutions (Design and Construct) as the Implementing Agent for the Upgrades and Renovations of the uMhlathuze Sports Complex in line with Premier Soccer League (PSL) Guidelines. The project scope of work entails the following:

• Waterproofing/sealing of joints on the existing Grandstand;

• Renovations to stadium facilities such as Changerooms, Ablutions and Offices on the existing Grandstand;

• Additions such as reconfiguration of entrances and provision of Elevator for disabled persons, paved VIP Access Road and Parking, construction of VIP, VOC and Media Suites, provision of new Grandstands to increase capacity from 4 000 to 9 000 seats, construction of Market Stalls, Ablution Facilities and Guardhouses, provision of new Flood Lights and backup Generators in line with PSL requirements and provision of Canvas Roof over the existing Grandstand.

The project is being implemented using Labour-Intensive Construction (LIC) methods and strategies, which has seen over thirty (30) job opportunities created for local labourers (skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled) which translates to just above ninety thousand (90 000) hours worked to date. This includes the involvement of local Sub-Contractors and Suppliers in line with City of uMhlathuze’s guidelines. Over the duration of the project, we have mentored and trained various students through our internal Mentorship Programme in line with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) Guidelines.

On completion and approval by the Premier Soccer League (PSL), amongst other activities, the uMhlathuze Sports Complex will be used as the home ground for Richards Bay Football Club (Natal Rich Boys) currently playing in Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Milford Football Club currently playing in National First Division (NFD).

The successful implementation of the project will benefit hotel and transport industries together with local businesses, as these games will eventually generate more visitors specifically in the town of Richards Bay and the City of uMhlathuze in general.
